The Colby College Museum of Art is seeking an experienced, imaginative, and collaborative Head Curator to lead its curatorial team and shape the museum’s artistic vision. The role is part of the senior leadership team and plays a central role in developing the museum’s exhibitions, collections strategy, scholarship, and engagement.

Responsibilities

Develop and oversee the curatorial strategy, exhibition schedule, and collections growth

Supervise curatorial staff and manage project workflows and budgets

Lead acquisitions, deaccessioning, research, and stewardship of the collection

Partner with Colby’s Lunder Institute for American Art on research and fellowships

Curate exhibitions and contribute scholarly writing and publications

Foster equity, inclusion, and access across curatorial practices and museum initiatives

Cultivate partnerships with artists, donors, scholars, and peer institutions

Represent the museum locally, nationally, and internationally
Eligibility Criteria
-
Master’s degree in Art History or related field

7–10 years of experience in curatorial leadership

Proven record of exhibition-making, publication, and collection development

Experience managing full-time staff

Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
