Salary/rate: $32 p/h, 18 hours per week
About play_station
play_station is an ARI in Te Whanganui-a-Tara who has been hosting exhibitions since 2016. We have 9 art studios rented out to practising artists, and also host events, and publish writing alongside exhibitions.
About the role
The Gallery Assistant will support the day-to-day operations of the gallery and work alongside our board of facilitators to help develop and deliver a high-quality exhibition program. The role is flexible, but we ask that the successful candidate be available to work on-site for at least two of our open days each week, with the support of our volunteer team.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the board of facilitators to develop and deliver an engaging exhibition program
- Help coordinate and support our team of volunteers
- Welcome visitors to the gallery
- Communicate with exhibiting artists, writers, and designers to help bring their work to life
- Assist with social media and email promotions for events and exhibitions
- Assist with admin like invoices, studio and gallery payments
- Support artists and writers with installing and presenting their work to a high standard
- Help organise our annual fundraiser, with guidance and support from the team
Candidate Requirements
- Art History/Fine arts/relevant degree or experience.
- Experience as an exhibiting artist or published writer.
- Experience working in art gallery (desirable)
- Demonstrable experience in exhibiting contemporary art (desirable)
