Independent Curators International (ICI) invites BIPOC emerging curators based in the Chicago Metropolitan Area to apply for the 2025 Chicago Curatorial Seminar, a free professional development program running from September 13 to December 20, 2025. Designed for curators with fewer than five years of experience, the seminar includes eight in-person sessions featuring site visits, mentorship, and workshops led by ICI staff and guest professionals.
Participants will explore curatorial models and strategies for supporting overlooked artists and engaging local communities beyond major institutions. Site visits in 2024 included Mariane Ibrahim Gallery, The Neubauer Collegium, The Renaissance Society, and WILD YAMS: Black Mothers Artist Residency.
2026–2027 International Residency Program
- Program dates: September 13 – December 20, 2025
- 8 in-person seminar sessions
- Individual project development with mentor support
- Guest speakers and site visits at key Chicago institutions
Eligibility Criteria
- BIPOC curators based in the Chicago Metropolitan Area
- 5 years of curatorial experience or less
- Not enrolled in an academic program during the seminar
