The Philadelphia Museum of Art is hiring two Assistant Curators of Modern and Contemporary Art to support an ambitious exhibition and acquisition program. Reporting to the Keith L. and Katherine Sachs Curator and Head of Department, the curators will contribute to exhibitions, publications, public programs, collections care, and partnerships—both locally and internationally. These full-time union positions are ideal for early-career curators with experience in modern and contemporary art.
Candidates should demonstrate strong research and writing skills, curatorial experience, and a commitment to equity, inclusion, and regional engagement. This is a fully on-site position based in Philadelphia.
Employment Details
- Type of employment: Full-time, exempt, unionized (AFSCME Local 397)
- Salary: $60,706.80 per year
- Schedule: 35 hours/week, on-site
- Reports to: The Keith L. and Katherine Sachs Curator for Modern and Contemporary Art
Responsibilities Include
- Develop and coordinate exhibitions, commissions, and collection displays
- Write interpretive texts and support publications
- Propose acquisitions and assess loans and deaccessions
- Collaborate with conservation, design, education, and engagement teams
- Build relationships with artists, collectors, and local communities
- Conduct scholarly and comparative research
- Participate in public programming and outreach
Eligibility Criteria
- Minimum 3 years of relevant curatorial experience
- Master’s degree preferred or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of modern and contemporary art
- Strong writing, public speaking, and project management skills
- Familiarity with museum databases (e.g., TMS) and Microsoft Office
- Commitment to inclusion, collaboration, and community engagement
