Liverpool Biennial is seeking a Curator of Learning for a fixed-term role overseeing the design, planning, and delivery of learning and engagement activities across 2026 projects and the 2027 edition of the Biennial. This key managerial position aims to offer inclusive, creative, and meaningful opportunities for audiences of all ages and backgrounds to connect with contemporary art.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of Programme & Partnerships (or maternity cover), the Curator of Learning will lead a team—including a Learning Assistant, trainees, and other project roles—to produce impactful education and engagement programmes. Responsibilities include commissioning community-based projects, managing educational partnerships, curating resources for schools and families, and facilitating youth involvement through a Youth Curators group. The role includes collaboration with artists, local practitioners, and partner institutions, as well as strategic planning, budgeting, evaluation, and advocacy.
Candidate Profile
Essential:
- Minimum 3 years in a similar role
- Experience in audience development with underserved communities
- Track record of delivering artistic commissions or learning projects
- Budget and project management skills
- Knowledge of safeguarding and health & safety regulations
- Strong teamwork and leadership abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and sustainability
- Enhanced DBS certification (or willingness to obtain it)
Desirable:
- Experience in public speaking or workshop facilitation
- Experience with non-gallery-based projects
- Links to Liverpool’s communities or education sector

- Salary: £30,250 – £33,302 per annum, depending on experience
