The Dresden Academy of Fine Arts invites applications for a full-time W2 professorship in Theoretical and Practical Art Technology within the interdisciplinary Bachelor’s program in Art Technology, Conservation, and Restoration of Art and Cultural Heritage. The position focuses on the technical and scientific study of paintings, polychrome works, modern art, murals, and architectural surfaces.
Responsibilities:
- Teach theoretical and practical courses on historical and contemporary artistic techniques and imaging examination methods (e.g., XR, IRR, UVF, Macro-XRF, HSI).
- Lead research projects involving digital imaging technologies for art investigation.
- Publish scientific research and engage in public dissemination of findings (“Science to Public”).
- Collaborate nationally and internationally, participate in third-party funding acquisition.
- Contribute to curriculum development and continuing education efforts.
Candidate Profile:
- Completed university degree in Art Technology, Conservation and Restoration, Art History (focus on Technical Art History), or related fields.
- PhD with substantial scientific achievements.
- Outstanding research record and publications.
- Deep knowledge of the material and technical processes of artworks.
- Experience with experimental reconstruction of artistic techniques.
- Expertise in imaging techniques and their interpretation.
- Teaching aptitude and experience in higher education didactics.
- Proven interdisciplinary collaboration and project management, including third-party funded projects.
- Experience cooperating with national and international institutions.
