The Metropolitan Museum of Art is seeking a Research Associate for a two-year, full-time position to support research, cataloguing, and programming related to the Philip Guston Collection and his artistic legacy. The role involves extensive art-historical research, coordination of cross-departmental projects, digital content creation, and support for exhibitions, public programs, and publications.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct in-depth research on Philip Guston’s work and legacy
Assist with online catalogue development, including author identification, editing, and securing image rights
Develop interpretive and digital content for The Met’s platforms
Coordinate meetings and agendas with various museum departments
Support installation planning, programming, lectures, and symposia related to Guston
Maintain image library and prepare lecture materials
Collaborate across teams with an open and inclusive approach

Requirements

Master’s degree (or equivalent) in art history or related field
Prior museum-based art-historical research experience, ideally in mid-20th century American art
Experience in digital content development and web collaboration
Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, TMS, and bibliographic tools such as Zotero
