The Metropolitan Museum of Art is seeking a Research Associate for a two-year, full-time position to support research, cataloguing, and programming related to the Philip Guston Collection and his artistic legacy. The role involves extensive art-historical research, coordination of cross-departmental projects, digital content creation, and support for exhibitions, public programs, and publications.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth research on Philip Guston’s work and legacy
- Assist with online catalogue development, including author identification, editing, and securing image rights
- Develop interpretive and digital content for The Met’s platforms
- Coordinate meetings and agendas with various museum departments
- Support installation planning, programming, lectures, and symposia related to Guston
- Maintain image library and prepare lecture materials
- Collaborate across teams with an open and inclusive approach
Requirements
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in art history or related field
- Prior museum-based art-historical research experience, ideally in mid-20th century American art
- Experience in digital content development and web collaboration
- Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, TMS, and bibliographic tools such as Zotero
