SAIC seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in the history of modern and contemporary architecture, with a preference for global, transnational, or trans-geographic perspectives. The position starts in August 2026 (pending budget approval) and will contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching, curricular leadership, and research in architecture and design history. The successful candidate will offer innovative approaches to global architecture, teach both introductory and graduate-level courses, and contribute to the school’s diversity and interdisciplinary mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including core classes such as A Global History of Architecture and Critical Terms in Modern Architecture
- Develop seminars aligned with research interests in theory, methodology, and related practices
- Advise BA, MA, and dual-degree students, including master’s theses in the Design History track
- Engage in curricular development, departmental administration, and school governance
- Contribute to SAIC’s research-driven culture and interdisciplinary art and design environment
- Serve as core faculty for the BA in Art History program
Requirements
- Ph.D. in art history, architecture, or related field (ABD considered with clear completion plan)
- Evidence of ongoing research and publication trajectory
- Teaching experience preferred
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and scholarship
- Ability to mentor students from varied backgrounds and collaborate across disciplines
- Administrative and service aptitude for departmental contributions
