Head of Art Education (50%) – Kunstmuseum Thun, Switzerland

Start date: 1 November 2025 or by arrangement
Location: Thun, Switzerland
Contract: Part-time (50%)

The Kunstmuseum Thun is an innovative Swiss art museum presenting around four temporary exhibitions annually, focusing on contemporary national and international art. Its collection of Swiss art includes more than 7,000 works. The museum also operates the Thun Panorama, home to the world’s oldest surviving panoramic painting. Art education at the museum means developing audience-oriented and innovative programmes in a collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategically align art education activities across both institutions (Kunstmuseum and Thun Panorama)
  • Lead and manage the Art Education team
  • Develop and implement educational programmes in collaboration with the team
  • Contribute to exhibitions and collection engagement with a focus on audience participation
  • Develop and maintain projects with external partners, with a focus on inclusive cultural participation
  • Carry out administrative tasks, including budget management
  • Fundraise for art education projects

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Art Education, Art History, Cultural Management, Pedagogy, or related fields
  • Several years’ professional experience in developing and implementing educational projects
  • Proven leadership experience in managing teams
  • Fundraising experience and knowledge of Swiss cultural funding landscape
  • Interest in education, children’s engagement, inclusion, participation, diversity, intergenerational dialogue, intercultural exchange, interdisciplinary approaches, and digital art education
  • Strong communication, conceptual, and editorial skills
  • Good network within Swiss cultural institutions
