transmediale x ARKO Residency (in cooperation with Arts Council Korea)
Location: Berlin, Germany (silent green Kulturquartier, Berlin-Wedding)
Residency Type: Two-month international residency
Eligibility: Open to artists, researchers, designers, sound artists, and practitioners of Korean nationality (living in Korea or abroad)
Disciplines: Digital art, moving image practices, design, sound, media theory
Residency Period: January – July 2026 (see structure below)

Residency Benefits
- Artist fee: €1,500 per month.
- Production support.
- Travel and accommodation support for festival and residency participation.
- Opportunities to present work during transmediale 2026 and the year-round studio programme.
- Networking with institutions, stakeholders, and cultural events in Berlin.
- Possibility of publishing through the transmediale journal.
Note: Applications from duos or collectives are welcome, but the artist fee must be shared.
Thematic Framework
This edition invites proposals that critically engage with the relational modes of digital art and the multivalent notions of technology as tool, medium, infrastructure, or practice. The call particularly seeks projects that:
- Explore social dimensions and (mis)uses of technology.
- Investigate alternative forms of knowledge, community, and technological imagination.
- Address political, ecological, and societal urgencies.
- Consider subtle yet impactful gestures that reconfigure entrenched systems and offer pathways for resilience.
Residency Structure
- 26 January – 1 February 2026: Residency kick-off at transmediale 2026 (attendance recommended).
- May 2026: Remote residency (2 weeks online, or 1 week online + 1 week in Berlin).
- June 2026: Residency month in Berlin (on-site presence mandatory).
- July 2026: Closing residency (2 weeks online, or 1 week Berlin + 1 week online).
Availability in Berlin during June 2026 is mandatory. Attendance during transmediale festival week in January is strongly recommended.
Timeline
- 17 July – 31 August 2025: Application period.
- 31 August 2025 (23:59 CEST): Application deadline.
- October 2025: Announcement of selected resident.

Applications must be submitted via the official transmediale submission form and include:
- Project description (max. 400 words).
- Project development details: current status and planned steps (max. 200 words).
- Optional supporting material (max. 5 items: images, video, mood board, etc.).
- Short bio.
- Contact information.
- Optional portfolio (PDF, max. 5 pages) of previous work.
