Villa I Tatti invites applications for fifteen Residential Fellowships for post-doctoral research in any aspect of the Italian Renaissance, broadly understood (14th–17th century) and including transnational dialogues between Italy and other cultures. Fellows will pursue independent research with access to the Berenson Library, digital resources, and interdisciplinary scholarly support. Fellows participate in seminars, workshops, conferences, and in-progress presentations of their research.
Eligibility Criteria
- PhD, dottorato di ricerca, or equivalent, awarded between 1 January 2015 – 1 September 2025
- Early-career scholars with strong background in Italian Renaissance studies
- Conversant in English or Italian, able to understand both
- Project must allow for majority of research to be carried out in Florence and at I Tatti
- Candidates may not be enrolled in a second PhD at time of application
- Preference for postdoctoral research projects, though significant reworking of a dissertation is considered
- Special consideration for candidates without regular access to research materials in Italy
Fellowship Terms
- Full-time commitment with no other professional obligations
- Engagement in scholarly life of Villa I Tatti, including lectures, seminars, and events
- Housing provided when available or housing subsidy offered
- Fellows responsible for visa, permesso di soggiorno, and health coverage
- One fellowship per applicant per academic year; renewals or repeats not granted
