The Morgan and Menil Drawing Institutes offer a research fellowship of 3 to 9 months to support independent projects on the history, theory, interpretation, or cultural meaning of drawing. Fellows are expected to spend part of the fellowship in residence at the Morgan Library & Museum and part at the Menil Collection, engaging fully with the intellectual life and programs of both institutions. Fellows present their research at both locations during the fellowship.
Fellowship Format
- Duration: 3–9 months (non-renewable)
- Stipend: $4,000/month for pre-doctoral fellows; $4,850/month for post-doctoral fellows within 7 years of PhD; $5,100/month for mid-career scholars
- Travel: Round-trip between New York and Houston covered; modest travel allowance for Morgan-related activities
- Fellows arrange their own housing and health insurance
- Visa support provided for foreign applicants (J-1 visa)
Eligibility Criteria
- Scholars at pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, or mid-career level
- Demonstrated expertise in the history, theory, or interpretation of drawing
- Proficiency in English
- Ability to work independently on a research project while participating in intellectual programs at both institutions
