General Statement of Responsibilities & Duties
As the Touring Exhibitions Project Manager, you will lead the delivery of The Met’s high-quality touring exhibition program, developing and touring exhibitions to domestic and international venues. The role is part of the international initiatives program and allows The Met to engage global audiences with its collection and scholarship.
You will:
- Partner with internal stakeholders to develop and manage touring projects.
- Identify venues and manage all correspondence between The Met and partners.
- Oversee project databases, budgets, and logistics.
- Occasionally serve as Project Manager for exhibitions presented at The Met prior to touring.

Primary Responsibilities & Duties
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop touring exhibitions and oversee budgets.
- Manage relationships with venues, represent The Met nationally and internationally.
- Coordinate logistics across multiple concurrent touring projects.
- Lead project planning meetings, track progress, manage deliverables and invoicing.
- Draft and negotiate contracts in collaboration with The Met’s Counsel’s Office.
- Coordinate with Publications and Retail to maximize revenue.
- Support Marketing and Communications on promotional opportunities.
- Supervise external consultants and vendors as needed.
- Analyze and optimize project management processes for efficiency and quality.
- Serve as courier and program representative at venues.
- Manage in-house presentations of touring exhibitions.
- Assemble and analyze budgets and revenue projections.
- Support additional international projects as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Art History or related field (MA preferred).
- 4–5 years of experience coordinating complex exhibitions or international projects.
- Proven project management expertise and team leadership under pressure.
- Experience managing exhibitions or major international projects from start to finish.
- Ability to travel internationally.
- Strong representation and networking skills internationally.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strategic and collaborative working style.
- Advanced budgeting and financial analysis abilities.
- Knowledge of art conservation, registration, and art handling.
- Excellent computer proficiency (Word, Excel, TMS, Outlook).
Compensation
Pay Range: $100,000 – $110,000 annually
The range reflects the good faith minimum and maximum salary for this role. Final compensation depends on experience, education, qualifications, and other relevant factors.
