Exhibition Organiser – Barbican Centre, London, United Kingdom

The Barbican Centre, a world-leading multidisciplinary arts venue in London, is seeking an Exhibition Organiser to support the coordination and delivery of its exhibition programme. Working closely with the Curatorial and Production teams, the role ensures all logistical, registrarial, and administrative elements are managed to the highest standards across the Barbican’s gallery spaces and partner venues internationally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate exhibitions and commissions logistics in collaboration with Curatorial and Production teams.
  • Liaise with lenders, transport agents, and insurers to ensure best practices in care and handling of artworks.
  • Prepare and manage installation and deinstallation schedules for exhibitions.
  • Maintain accurate records for transport, insurance, indemnity, and condition reporting.
  • Support the preparation of loan agreements, contracts, and registrarial documentation.
  • Work directly with partner institutions to manage co-organised and touring exhibitions.
  • Assist with budget preparation, requisitions, and invoice processing.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and equal opportunity policies across exhibition projects.

Minimum Criteria

  • Degree or equivalent experience in a humanities subject, with demonstrable knowledge of the visual arts.
  • Proven experience in the organisation and coordination of exhibitions in a major gallery or museum.
  • Understanding of international transport, insurance, and registrarial best practices.
  • Experience in working with artists on commissions and condition checking of artworks.
  • Excellent administrative, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
  • Team-oriented, flexible, and diplomatic with a professional and proactive attitude.
  • Willingness and ability to travel when required.
