The Museo Nacional del Prado has opened a competitive examination process to fill a Curator position in the Department of Flemish Painting and Northern Schools from 1500. The role involves research, conservation, and exhibition of one of the museum’s most prestigious collections.

Key Responsibilities

• Scientific cataloguing of works in the Flemish and Northern Schools collection (from 1500).
• Development of new exhibition narratives for the permanent collection.
• Direction of research teams and projects in Flemish and Northern painting.
• Supervision of conservation standards and the public presentation of the collection.
• Curating temporary exhibitions within the museum or in programs such as Prado Itinerante, Prado Extendido, and Prado Internacional.
• Defining acquisition and collection enhancement strategies through purchases, donations, or loans.
• Preparing technical reports on loans, acquisitions, and donations.
• Participation in the Prado’s Study Centre through teaching, lectures, and academic events.
• Contribution to educational and outreach programs.
• Authoring scholarly and public publications.
• Administrative management and annual planning within the department’s scope.

Eligibility Requirements

• Spanish or EU nationality (or equivalent under EU treaties).
• A university degree or equivalent in Art History (foreign degrees must be officially validated).
• Full professional capacity and compliance with public employment regulations.
• No disciplinary record or disqualification from public service.
• Strong knowledge of:
• Flemish and Northern painting since 1500.
• Museology, museography, and cultural management.
• Spanish heritage and museum legislation.
• The legal and institutional framework of the Museo del Prado.
• High proficiency in English (spoken and written), reading ability in Dutch and German (French desirable).
• Project coordination and digital literacy (text, image, and database management).
• Strong teamwork, communication, and detail-oriented skills.
