Head of Collections – NYU Grey Art Museum

Location: New York, USA (Fully Onsite)
Contract: Fixed-term, 2 years
Salary: USD $70,000–$85,000
NYU Grey Art Museum seeks an experienced professional to manage the NYU Art Collection, including paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, and prints. The Head of Collections oversees scholarship, documentation, acquisition, conservation, storage, transport, and access, ensuring the collection is available for research, teaching, exhibitions, and programs. The role supervises interns and collaborates with museum leadership to manage safe transport, display, and loans.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of the NYU Art Collection.
- Supervise collection interns and support staff.
- Oversee collection-related projects and loans.
- Ensure safe transport and proper display of works, including those on loan.
- Contribute to the museum’s educational and research mission.
Person Specification
- Education: Master’s in Art History or Museum Studies (Doctorate preferred, ideally in 20th Century and beyond)
- Experience: 5+ years in collections management in a fine arts institution (curatorial experience preferred)
- Skills: Knowledge of preservation and conservation, advanced art historical scholarship, database management, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, project management, flexibility in a dynamic environment
