This position invites applications for the Director of Scientific Studies for the Ancient and Medieval periods at the Casa de Velázquez. The role involves overseeing the scientific strategy of the School of Advanced Studies in Hispanic and Iberian Studies (EHEHI), coordinating research programs, editorial activities, and international partnerships, and supporting scholars and fellows in their projects.
Employment Details
- Appointment for three years, renewable once.
- Public French institution; civil servants may be appointed on secondment.
- Direct report to the Director of Casa de Velázquez.
Responsibilities
- Implement scientific policy in coordination with internal departments and partner entities.
- Participate in research committees, calls for applications, and selection of residents and fellows.
- Ensure dissemination and valorization of research results.
- Co-manage editorial activities with the other Director of Studies.
- Seek, develop, and coordinate external funding (national and European projects).
- Supervise fellows and guide doctoral researchers and contract researchers.
- Organize trainings, key academic events, and coordinate archaeological missions.
- Develop transdisciplinary projects connecting arts and humanities.
- Maintain and expand scientific partnerships via MIAS and other international networks.
Eligibility Criteria / Profile
- Strong knowledge of higher education and research systems in France, Spain, Portugal, and Morocco for ancient and medieval studies.
- Experience in research funding and management of national and international projects.
- Proficiency in French (main working language), good command of Spanish, and working knowledge of English.
- Archaeological expertise desirable.
- Leadership and management experience appreciated.
