Rotorua Lakes Council seeks an Exhibitions Programme Curator to lead the development of long-term and short-term exhibitions at Rotorua Museum. The role supports the museum’s reopening, amplifies its community profile, and ensures bicultural storytelling in collaboration with Te Arawa iwi and hapū.
Role Overview
- Curate and develop a dynamic programme of changing and long-term exhibitions.
- Collaborate with artists, guest curators, local groups, and community partners.
- Research, develop content, and contribute to exhibition storytelling and design.
- Oversee production of new works, manage budgets, timelines, and logistics.
- Build partnerships with museums and cultural institutions to extend reach and impact.
- Ensure exhibitions reflect Rotorua’s bicultural heritage and community identity.
Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Fine Art, Art History, Māori Studies, Social History, or related field.
- Experience in curating or programming museum exhibitions.
- Strong project management, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
- Commitment to bicultural practice and understanding of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga.
- Experience with museum collections and working with iwi/hapū is advantageous.
