Spiegel Wilks Fellow

The Spiegel Wilks Fellow contributes to the intellectual direction of ICA’s public engagement initiatives, connecting exhibitions and programs to the research and teaching mission of the University of Pennsylvania. The Fellow develops research-driven public programs, cultivates academic and community partnerships, and integrates contemporary artistic practices into broader conversations about art, ideas, and society. This fellowship offers emerging scholars or cultural practitioners an opportunity to engage deeply in curatorial and public-facing research.

Fellowship Details 

  • Full-time, two-year fellowship (option for a third year at the Director’s discretion)
  • Collaboration with curators, artists, and ICA staff on public programs, lectures, and performances
  • Coordination of visiting artists, speakers, and cultural partners (travel, accommodations, honoraria)
  • Facilitation of undergraduate Student Board and Visiting Artist Lecture Series
  • Opportunities for Penn students to engage directly with artists and visiting scholars
  • Participation in program evaluation, documentation, and dissemination of public engagement initiatives

Eligibility Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree and 1–2 years of experience or equivalent combination
  • Excellent writing, research, and communication skills
  • Highly organized, proactive, able to manage multiple projects
  • Interest in ICA’s mission and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility
  • Preferred: degree or coursework in art history, cultural anthropology, design, or related field
  • Experience in cultural institutions, universities, or nonprofits
