The Colby College Museum of Art seeks an experienced and collaborative Chief Curator to join the senior leadership team. The role oversees curatorial strategy, collection development, exhibitions, publications, and staff mentorship. The Chief Curator will help shape the museum’s long-term vision, engaging with artists, scholars, and communities while fostering innovative and inclusive programming.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and execute long-term curatorial vision and multi-year exhibition schedule

Lead collection development strategy, acquisitions, and stewardship

Mentor and manage the curatorial team

Oversee exhibitions, publications, and programs, including public engagement

Support fundraising, donor relations, and external communications

Collaborate across departments to ensure integrated museum operations
Qualifications

Master’s degree required; knowledge of American art history essential

Minimum seven years in arts/culture/education, with five years in curatorial leadership

Proven experience in exhibitions, publications, and collection management

Strong organizational, project management, and budget skills

Excellent communication, mentorship, and relationship-building abilities
