The Getty Research Institute seeks to appoint an Associate Curator of Prints and Drawings to develop, administer, and present its collection spanning from the Renaissance to the contemporary period. The position focuses on building, managing, and expanding the Institute’s special collections through acquisitions, donations, research, and public engagement.

The ideal candidate will be a specialist in Early Modern art history, with the ability and willingness to work across the full breadth of the collection and with diverse graphic media. The role involves contributing to the field through exhibitions, publications, lectures, and international scholarly collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, administer, and present the prints and drawings collections
  • Conduct advanced scholarly research supporting the Institute’s mission
  • Organise significant exhibitions, publications, and acquisitions
  • Actively participate in collection development and acquisitions
  • Cultivate national and international relationships with scholars and museum professionals
  • Publish and lecture within the area of specialisation
  • Assess conservation needs, participate in digitisation initiatives, and evaluate loan requests
  • Collaborate on and lead research projects, serving as a resource for scholars, visitors, and staff

Qualifications

Applicants must have:

  • A Master’s degree or PhD in art history or a related discipline or 4–7 years of curatorial experience
  • Fluency in at least one foreign language relevant to the field of specialisation
  • Demonstrated competence across all core curatorial functions

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to build long-term professional relationships and collaborate across disciplines
  • Experience with collection management and digital asset management tools
  • Strong art historical research and writing skills
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas to specialist and general audiences
  • Capacity to adapt written material for different platforms, including print and digital
