This full-time, permanent position offers the opportunity to work closely with the Curator, Photography, at one of North America’s largest art museums. The Associate Curator will oversee the photography collection, organize major exhibitions, and contribute to the opening of the new Dani Reiss Modern and Contemporary Gallery in 2027. The role involves research, acquisitions, public engagement, and collaboration across departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, build, and present the permanent photography collection
- Organize and execute major exhibitions and publications
- Acquire new works for the collection and manage related documentation
- Engage with donors, collectors, scholars, and the public
- Manage and mentor interns and staff
- Participate in AGO strategic planning and cross-departmental initiatives
Eligibility Criteria
- Graduate-level education (MA in Art History or similar), specialized in photography
- Minimum 5 years curatorial experience, including major exhibitions and collection management
- Minimum 2 years administrative/management experience
- Proven research, writing, and public speaking skills
- Knowledge of AGO collections desirable
- Proficiency in English (knowledge of French or other languages is an asset)
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and negotiation skills
- Experience with collections management software (e.g., The Museum System – TMS)
