The Barber Institute of Fine Art seeks a Curator to join its Collections team. The role is pivotal in developing and delivering exhibitions, displays, and artist projects, including the Barber’s collection rehang. The post holder will work with contemporary artists, researchers, and communities, contribute to reinterpretation initiatives, and support access to the Institute’s internationally significant collection.
Responsibilities

Lead and collaborate on curatorial development of temporary exhibitions, permanent collection displays, and artist projects

Research and liaise with contemporary artists, external curators, and academics

Contribute to reinterpretation initiatives and new access-led programmes within the permanent collection galleries

Coordinate programming of the Print Bays and wider works on paper collection

Prepare interpretative materials: labels, panels, essays, digital content

Collaborate with Learning & Engagement, Marketing, and external designers and publishers

Support exhibition organisation: loans management, installation planning, couriering artworks

Supervise interns, volunteers, and work-experience students

Contribute to research-led public programme initiatives, talks, podcasts, and potentially teaching within the University
Eligibility Criteria

Degree in History of Art or related field with contemporary practice experience

Experience in museums/galleries and working with contemporary artists

Knowledge of the Barber’s collection holdings

Proven research, writing, and curatorial skills

Strong organisational, administrative, and interpersonal skills

Willingness to travel nationally/internationally and work outside regular hours as required
