Programme Overview
The Getty Foundation, in collaboration with ICOM-CC, offers a limited number of international travel grants to support museum and conservation professionals attending the 21st ICOM-CC Triennial Conference in Oslo, Norway.
The programme aims to strengthen global conservation practice by enabling in-career professionals from emerging and developing economies to participate in one of the most significant international gatherings in the field of cultural heritage conservation. Grant recipients join a global professional network, exchange expertise, and contribute to knowledge-sharing across institutions and regions.
What the Grant Covers
Successful applicants will receive financial support covering the main costs of attending the conference, including:
- Accommodation and daily sustenance in Oslo (13–19 September 2026)
- International round-trip airfare to Oslo Gardermoen Airport (economy class, most reasonable fare)
Please note that the grant does not cover:
- Travel within the applicant’s home country
- Passport or visa fees
- Travel insurance
- Personal expenses
Grant recipients are expected to contribute to uncovered costs and seek supplementary funding where possible.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet all of the following conditions:
- Be employed full time by a museum, conservation institution, or a non-conservation institution with a conservation department (e.g. a university)
- Have a minimum of five years’ professional experience after completing formal education
- Live and work in an ICOM Category 3, 4, or 5 country
- Be an in-career professional (students, freelancers, consultants, self-employed, and retired professionals are not eligible)
Applicants do not need to be members of ICOM or ICOM-CC, although special consideration may be given to:
- Individual ICOM or ICOM-CC members
- ICOM-CC Friends
- Professionals working at ICOM-member institutions
In certain contexts, long-term contractual employment may be considered if continuity and institutional commitment can be demonstrated.
Application Requirements
Applicants must:
- Complete the official application form in English (Word format only)
- Follow all sections of the form exactly (no substitutions or structural changes)
- Provide confirmation of full-time employment from their institution
- Submit two signed letters of recommendation on institutional letterhead (PDF format)
- Include an estimated cost of return airfare (in euros) from their nearest international airport to Oslo
A CV should not be submitted unless specifically requested at a later stage.
Selection Conditions & Responsibilities
Grant recipients will be required to:
- Sign a formal letter of understanding outlining grant terms
- Take responsibility for visa arrangements
- Submit a post-conference evaluation report as a condition of funding
Recipients are considered partners in the grant process and are expected to engage responsibly with both the programme and the professional community it supports.
