The Madrid Institute for Advanced Study (MIAS), in collaboration with the Centre d’études Picasso at the Musée national Picasso-Paris, launches a new edition of the PicALsso short-term scientific residency.

Following the success of its brief research formats, this three-month residency is designed for scholars and artists developing an excellent research career in the fields of arts, humanities, social sciences, and legal studies.

Residency Format

  • Duration: 3 months (non-renewable)
  • Residency period: Between 1 September 2026 and 31 July 2027
  • Structure:
    • 6 weeks in Madrid

    • 6 weeks in Paris

  • Accommodation:

    • Madrid: Casa de Velázquez

    • Paris: Collège d’Espagne

  • Stipend: €1,000 per month
  • Travel support:
    • Round-trip travel between Madrid and country of residence (up to €250)

    • Additional mobility support (up to €300) for candidates from Africa or Latin America

    • Travel between Madrid and Paris reimbursed up to €200

  • Meals subsidy: €5 per day during the stay at Casa de Velázquez
  • Visa and insurance arrangements are the responsibility of the selected fellow.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Hold a PhD degree
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of at least two of the following languages: English, French, Spanish
  • Conduct research on themes related to the critical and cultural receptions of Pablo Picasso in Latin America
  • Justify the need for research stays in both Madrid and Paris
  • Present a project aligned with the scientific orientations of MIAS and the scientific policy of Casa de Velázquez
