FOTODOKS e.V. is seeking a Project Manager / Co-Curator (m/f/d) for the 13th edition of the FOTODOKS Festival for Contemporary Documentary Photography, scheduled to culminate in spring 2027.

The position is awarded on a freelance basis and involves approximately 600 working hours over 10–12 months, with a total gross compensation of €15,000.

Role Overview

The selected candidate will take primary responsibility for planning, coordinating, and delivering the upcoming festival edition in close collaboration with the curatorial collective.

The role combines project management and curatorial responsibilities, acting as the central interface between artists, partner institutions, sponsors, and external service providers (press, graphic designers, translators, printers, mediators, invigilators, etc.).

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a curatorial concept for the group exhibition, publication, and accompanying programme
  • Coordinate all project phases in alignment with timeline and budget
  • Provide curatorial input to the festival’s thematic direction
  • Draft and edit exhibition texts
  • Support funding applications
  • Prepare artwork lists and artist contracts
  • Oversee loan procedures
  • Produce texts for exhibition dossiers and communication materials
  • Liaise with artists, partners, sponsors, and service providers

Candidate Profile

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in art, cultural, or humanities-related fields
  • Proven experience in exhibition conception, financing, and implementation
  • Strong project management, editorial, and press experience
  • In-depth knowledge of contemporary photography and its contexts
  • Diversity-sensitive and discrimination-critical awareness
  • Established professional networks within the photography field
  • Excellent German and English (written and spoken)
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Availability for evening and weekend work during the festival period
  • Independent, structured working style and strong communication skills
