CCA Islands Travel Scholarship 2026–2027

CCA Islands offers the CCA Travel Scholarship for emerging artists, curators, architects, designers and those who aim to be a professional in various areas of contemporary art and culture, pursuing their research and creative activities in Japan.
The scholarship offers research expenses of JPY 200,000 and covers one return transportation fare (only to/from Japan) according to CCA Islands terms and conditions. In the case of residing in Japan, transportation expenses for one round trip between two locations in Japan is provided. Preference will be given to applicants under 35 years of age.
The recipients are expected to stay in Japan, with a minimum length of stay of 4 weeks and a maximum of 8 weeks between September 1, 2026 and March 31, 2027.
At the end of their stay, recipients are required to report the result of their research.
Eligibility
Curator
Work experience in contemporary art or majored in art/art history.
Architect / Designer
Work experience by running a private office or being engaged in equivalent activities.
Artist
No specific requirements.
All applicants must be up to age 35.

- Budget plan excluding airfare to/from Japan (If residing in Japan, exclude transportation expenses for one round trip between two locations in Japan)

Curators / Historians / Researchers
Cover letter summarizing your recent professional work mainly on art exhibitions, publications and art projects (max. 500 words).
Artists / Designers / Architects
Submit images of your work:
- Minimum 5 works, maximum 10 works
- Include caption, description, title, year, materials, and project description
For time-based media such as film, video, or sound, please submit no more than 5 minutes of material in total.

Number of works: Minimum 5, maximum 10 works
File limit: Up to 10 files in total
Accepted formats: PDF, Video, and Audio files only
PDF Format:
Each work must be summarized on one A4 page.
Required information:
Each work must include Title, Year, Medium, and Description.
Total file size:
Maximum 1 GB for all files combined. Please compress files (e.g., MP4) to stay within this limit. Submissions exceeding 1 GB will not be accepted.
Time limit (media):
The total duration of all video and audio files combined must be within 5 minutes.
Prohibition:
YouTube links or any external website links are strictly prohibited. Files must be uploaded directly.
