The Chair of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Kunsthistorisches Institut is offering a 60% pre-doctoral position in art history beginning in September 2026. The position is attached to the chair led by Bärbel Küster and supports doctoral research focusing on postcolonial perspectives in art history, particularly related to modern art.
The successful candidate will develop a doctoral project within modern art history, with a particular emphasis on the entangled histories between the African continent and German-speaking countries in the twentieth century.

Responsibilities

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should demonstrate:

An excellent Master’s degree (MA or equivalent) in Art History
