Sotheby’s is seeking an Associate Specialist in Contemporary Art to support its sales, research, and client development activities. This role combines scholarly expertise with commercial awareness, contributing to auctions, private sales, and long-term business strategy within one of the world’s leading art market institutions.

The position involves cataloguing and researching artworks, writing catalogue entries and condition reports, and supporting the full auction cycle. The successful candidate will also assist in sourcing works, preparing valuations and proposals, and maintaining strong relationships with collectors and clients. The role includes collaboration with internal teams and external experts, as well as contributing to sales targets and strategic development.

Key Responsibilities

• Researching and cataloguing artworks to a high scholarly standard

• Writing catalogue entries and condition reports

• Supporting sourcing and consignment of works, including international travel

• Assisting with valuations, estimates, and proposals

• Coordinating with internal departments and external specialists

• Contributing to pre- and post-sale processes

• Supporting sales targets and long-term business development

• Maintaining high standards of client service

Eligibility Criteria

• Degree in Art History or related field (Master’s preferred)

• Strong knowledge of the contemporary art market

• Experience with valuation and auction processes

• Excellent research, writing, and organisational skills

• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Fluency in English (additional European language desirable)
