The eikones Graduate School at the University of Basel is offering three fully funded PhD positions focused on the theory and history of the image. The programme is part of an interdisciplinary research center dedicated to exploring the meanings, functions, and effects of images from Antiquity to the present.

The selected candidates will develop an original doctoral project within a structured and internationally oriented academic environment, engaging with disciplines across the humanities.

Key Responsibilities

• Developing and completing an original doctoral dissertation

• Participating in the academic programme and events of the Graduate School

• Engaging in interdisciplinary research on image theory and history

• Collaborating with faculty members and guest scholars

Eligibility Criteria

• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field (completed within the last two years)

• Strong academic record and research potential

• A well-defined and innovative research proposal

• Willingness to enroll at the University of Basel and work under faculty supervision
