Trautwein Herleth is seeking a Gallery Manager to join its team in Berlin. The role combines front-of-house responsibilities with exhibition coordination, artist liaison, and operational management. It is a core position within the gallery, supporting both daily operations and the delivery of exhibitions, art fairs, and institutional collaborations.
The Gallery Manager is responsible for ensuring the smooth daily functioning of the gallery while coordinating exhibitions and maintaining close relationships with artists, institutions, and external collaborators. The role requires strong organisational skills, an understanding of contemporary art, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced gallery environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as first point of contact for visitors, press, and clients
- Oversee daily gallery operations and front-of-house activities
- Coordinate exhibitions, art fairs, and related projects
- Liaise with artists, studios, freelancers, and partner institutions
- Maintain and update artist and gallery databases
- Manage website content (artist pages, CVs, archive, news)
- Oversee gallery social media (Instagram content creation and planning)
- Prepare art fair applications and presentation materials
- Support production, logistics, and installation of exhibitions
- Maintain documentation, archives, and image databases
- Assist with research and development of exhibitions
Candidate Profile
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a gallery or contemporary art institution
- Strong knowledge of contemporary art and institutional contexts
- Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities
- Strong communication skills in German and English (additional languages a plus)
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines
- Proficiency in Mac OS, Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, and gallery databases (e.g. Artlogic, Artbutler)
- Team-oriented, proactive, and detail-focused approach
- Flexibility to travel and work in a dynamic schedule
