The Department of Art History at UCLA invites applications for the Hannah and Edward W. Carter Postdoctoral Fellowship in Early Modern European Art (1400–1750). The fellowship is intended for scholars whose research engages with early modern European art and ecological questions, with a preference for innovative, interdisciplinary methodologies and global contextual approaches.
Research Focus

- Alignment with “Making Green Worlds: Early Modern Art and Ecologies of Globalization” (desirable)
Responsibilities
- Develop an independent postdoctoral research project
- Teach one undergraduate course per academic year (if required)
- Work with a faculty mentor on research and professional development
- Participate in departmental and research centre activities
- Engage with graduate students, scholars, and visiting researchers
- Co-organise an interdisciplinary conference at the Clark Library in year two
Eligibility
- PhD awarded between 1 January 2019 and 30 June 2026
- Specialisation in early modern European art history
