About the role
Sitting within the Historic British Art team (pre-c.1915) and focussing on eighteenth-century British art, the Assistant Curator will help to deliver exhibitions and collection displays; research the historic collection and potential acquisitions; write interpretation and website texts; and organise and participate in research events.
The ideal candidate will bring strong research and organisational skills, enthusiasm for eighteenth-century British art, and a commitment to contributing to the diversification of British art histories. Experience working with collections or exhibitions is desirable.
What you will do
The Assistant Curator will support the curation of changing displays at Tate Britain and contribute to the planning and delivery of exhibitions relating to eighteenth-century British art. The role includes managing loan correspondence, maintaining project records, liaising with lenders, registrars, conservators, installation teams and contractors, contributing to interpretation and publications, and providing talks and tours as required.
The role will also involve developing and sharing specialist expertise on eighteenth-century British art and its wider social, cultural, political, economic and international contexts. The Assistant Curator will support research that addresses priorities in the interpretation of Tate’s collection, particularly in relation to diversifying the collection and expanding the canon.
What you will bring to the team
Candidates should bring demonstrable knowledge of one or more aspects of eighteenth-century British art, research skills and curiosity, awareness of new directions in art historical research around this period, curatorial experience, and ideally experience working with a collection.
Experience of working on loan exhibitions and changing displays is also sought, alongside excellent writing and presentation skills, strong organisational abilities, collaborative working experience, and a commitment to equity, diversity and respect in the workplace.
