BUTTER Fine Art Fair is an annual contemporary art fair organized by GANGGANG, an Indianapolis-based creative advocacy agency focused on equity, cultural production, and supporting Black visual artists.
The fair is designed as a platform for artistic visibility, economic opportunity, and structural transformation within the art world, bringing together artists, galleries, collectors, and institutions in a large-scale public-facing event.
About the Role
The Exhibition Manager leads the operational and logistical execution of the BUTTER Fine Art Fair exhibition programme, working closely with the Fair Director to coordinate installation, artist relations, sales systems, and overall fair delivery.
This is a highly hands-on, production-heavy role that spans curatorial coordination, exhibition logistics, vendor management, and on-site leadership during the fair.
Responsibilities
- Manage exhibition timelines and provide regular curatorial updates to the Director
- Coordinate gallery participation and manage institutional relationships
- Oversee vendors including shippers, framers, suppliers, and logistics partners
- Coordinate artwork shipping, delivery, installation, and de-installation
- Support exhibition design including lighting, layout, and wall didactics
- Manage on-site exhibition floor operations during the fair
- Collect, organize, and manage artist and artwork data for the exhibition catalogue
- Coordinate artwork photography for publication and documentation
- Oversee sales operations and manage artwork data within Artlogic
- Coordinate and supervise sales team activities
- Maintain communication with artists throughout the exhibition cycle
- Manage artist payments, invoices, and financial coordination
- Support artist experience and engagement during the fair
Candidate Profile
- Experience managing large-scale exhibition or event timelines
- Strong background in communication with artists, curators, and galleries
- Experience in art handling, installation, and exhibition production
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders under tight deadlines
- Familiarity with Artlogic software is a plus
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, on-site production environments
