Contract: Part-time

The Project Associate, Curatorial Research is the operational and logistical anchor of a major curatorial initiative. Working directly with the Head of Curatorial, the role ensures that complex research frameworks are translated into structured, actionable, and well-managed project delivery.

The position combines curatorial engagement with strong project management responsibilities, supporting both the intellectual development of the project and its operational execution across research, fieldwork, events, and institutional coordination.

The Project Associate will support the curatorial team across all stages of a large-scale research-driven project, ensuring smooth coordination between conceptual development and operational delivery.

The role involves project management, research coordination, event production, archival logistics, and cross-institutional communication, working closely with internal departments and international collaborators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain project timelines, milestones, and delivery schedules
  • Support budget tracking and administrative coordination
  • Coordinate communication between curatorial, digital heritage, conservation, and communications teams
  • Produce weekly updates and monthly project reports
  • Support planning and delivery of workshops, symposia, and public programmes
  • Coordinate speakers, artists, and stakeholders including travel and logistics
  • Oversee documentation of events, including recording, transcription, and archiving
  • Manage fieldwork logistics and multi-leg international travel arrangements
  • Coordinate archival access, permissions, and research visits
  • Support data management and organisation of research materials
  • Draft correspondence, reports, and institutional documentation

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in project management, arts administration, or research-based cultural programming
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant humanities or cultural field
  • Experience in museums, universities, or cultural institutions preferred
  • Strong project management and organisational skills
  • Experience coordinating events, symposia, or research programmes
  • Ability to manage complex logistics across international contexts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with archival or research processes desirable
  • Interest in African art history or postcolonial studies is an asset
