The National Trust Cymru is seeking an experienced Project Curator to support heritage and cultural projects across some of the most significant places in Wales. Working across historic buildings, landscapes, gardens, and collections, the role focuses on shaping how audiences engage with Welsh history, identity, and place through research-led interpretation and storytelling.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful, multi-site projects that connect people with the stories, landscapes, and cultural heritage of Wales, ensuring they are communicated in inclusive, engaging, and sustainable ways.

The Project Curator will work across multiple sites in Wales, providing curatorial expertise to support the development and delivery of heritage projects. The role involves shaping interpretation strategies, supporting exhibitions and public programmes, and ensuring that research and storytelling reflect the cultural significance of Welsh places and communities.

Working closely with property teams, specialists, and external partners, the curator will help embed curatorial thinking across projects and contribute to creating meaningful visitor experiences rooted in place, history, and identity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert curatorial advice to project and property teams across Wales
  • Use knowledge of Welsh history, landscapes, collections, and culture to inform project development
  • Develop interpretation and storytelling strategies that reflect the Spirit of Place
  • Support exhibitions, programming, and digital content development
  • Lead or commission research and ensure its integration into projects
  • Support project planning, including budgets, risks, timelines, and resources
  • Collaborate with consultants, contractors, and specialist partners
  • Coach and support colleagues and volunteers in curatorial practice

Requirements

  • Expertise in history, art history, archaeology, landscapes, architectural history, or related disciplines
  • Understanding of Welsh heritage, culture, and identity
  • Experience developing interpretation and storytelling for diverse audiences
  • Knowledge of collections care and conservation standards
  • Experience working in project-based environments
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience managing budgets, risks, and complex workflows
  • Commitment to engaging people with places and heritage
