South London Gallery is seeking an Emerging Curator Fellow as part of the Deutsche Bank x Frieze Emerging Curator Fellowship programme. Established in 2020, the fellowship supports Black and global majority heritage curators through paid placements within leading arts organisations across the UK.
Based at South London Gallery, the 15-month fellowship provides comprehensive training and professional development across all aspects of exhibitions and public programming within a contemporary art institution. The successful candidate will gain practical experience in research, exhibition-making, event delivery, administration, and archiving while developing their own curatorial interests and research.
Working closely with the Programme Team and Director, the fellow will contribute to the gallery’s exhibitions and events programme while receiving mentoring, research support, and access to professional networks through the organisation’s curatorial and development teams.
The fellowship culminates in the development of a public activation supported by Frieze London, providing an opportunity to realise an independent curatorial project within a major contemporary art context.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the work of the Programme Team and Director across exhibitions and public programmes.
- Provide administrative assistance related to exhibitions, events, and programme delivery.
- Assist with research, planning, coordination, and implementation of projects.
- Contribute to exhibition and programme archiving processes.
- Participate in training opportunities across different areas of gallery operations.
- Develop independent curatorial research within the framework of the fellowship.
- Contribute to the delivery of the final fellowship activation supported by Frieze London.
