Museum de Fundatie is seeking a Curator of 19th- and 20th-Century Art to join its curatorial team in Zwolle and Heino. The museum is one of the leading art institutions in the Netherlands, with a collection of more than 16,000 artworks spanning multiple periods, geographies, and disciplines.

The role focuses on strengthening collection-based research, developing exhibitions and publications, and contributing to new curatorial narratives that expand how 19th- and 20th-century art is interpreted and presented. The curator will also play a key role in shaping the museum’s collection strategy and public programming.

Role Overview

The selected curator will:

  • Conduct scholarly research on the museum’s 19th- and 20th-century collection.
  • Develop exhibitions, publications, lectures, and public programmes.
  • Contribute to collection stewardship, documentation, and interpretation.
  • Participate in acquisition and collection development discussions.
  • Collaborate with artists, researchers, institutions, and international partners.
  • Help shape curatorial strategy and museum-wide narratives.

Profile

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in curatorial or assistant curatorial roles.
  • MA degree (or equivalent) in Art History.
  • Strong knowledge of 19th- and 20th-century art.
  • Experience in research, exhibition-making, and publishing.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Experience in project-based and multidisciplinary environments.
  • Excellent English; willingness to learn Dutch.
