How can museums change society? What consequences can curatorial actions have? The /ecm study program in Exhibition Theory and Practice at the University of Applied Arts Vienna is a two-year postgraduate program that provides comprehensive knowledge and skills in the expanded field of museums and exhibitions. In collaborative processes, we experiment with various methods of curatorial research, theory, and practice. This gives rise to discourses, ruptures, and horizons that challenge the canon, occupy exhibition spaces and the public sphere, and seek not only to digitize museums and collections but above all to democratize them.

The program is aimed at a group with diverse educational and professional backgrounds and offers two different paths:
a/ extra-occupational Master’s program with a master’s thesis;
b/ university course with a practice-based research project.
Both paths take place simultaneously as a shared teaching program.

The next intake of the /ecm begins in October 2026.
Applications are accepted from now until August 15, 2026.
The next admissions seminar takes place on September 1, 2026.
