The Role

Galerie Fabian Lang is seeking a full-time Gallery Manager to support its Gallery Director across communications, administration, organisation, artist liaison, sales and client relations.

The position offers comprehensive insight into the international gallery sector and a high level of independent responsibility. The successful candidate may also have opportunities to represent the gallery at international art fairs.

Administration and Gallery Operations

Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting front-of-house activities and helping manage the gallery’s daily operations and maintenance
  • Planning and coordinating exhibition installations and deinstallations
  • Packing and unpacking artworks
  • Hanging and installing works
  • Coordinating national and international art transportation
  • Producing communications materials, including social media content, newsletters, artwork lists, press releases, artist biographies and CVs
  • Organising and managing the gallery’s internal and external events
  • Providing evening support during exhibition openings
  • Managing and updating the gallery website
  • Maintaining and effectively using the gallery’s contact database
  • Conducting research and maintaining documentation
  • Managing the daily calendar and updating meeting agendas
  • Supporting the Gallery Director with additional responsibilities as required

Artist Liaison

The Gallery Manager will:

  • Serve as the principal contact for assigned artists
  • Coordinate the production of artworks
  • Manage inventories for gallery artists
  • Represent the gallery at artists’ external exhibitions
  • Maintain close and professional relationships with artists throughout the development of exhibitions and other projects

Sales and Client Relations

Responsibilities will include:

Experience and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Two to four years of experience organising contemporary art exhibitions
  • Experience independently managing sales within a gallery
  • A strong understanding of the contemporary art market
  • Experience working and communicating directly with artists
  • A master’s degree, ideally in art history, art management, business or an equivalent field

Art history or business may have been studied as a principal or subsidiary subject.

Languages and Technical Skills

Applicants must have:

  • Excellent spoken and written German
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign
  • Experience managing websites through platforms such as WordPress or Squarespace
  • Experience working with databases

Knowledge of French and/or Italian is considered an advantage.
