About the Role
The Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe (HfG) is seeking to fill a position for an AResearch Associate (m/w/d) in the Art Studies & Media Philosophy programme, starting 1 October 2026. This is a qualification position under § 2 WissZeitVG, initially fixed-term for three years, with the possibility of extension up to a total of six years. The role supports the successful candidate’s doctoral research while contributing to teaching and academic administration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independent teaching at HfG (2 semester hours per week) and participation in examinations
- Academic research toward a doctoral dissertation
- Collaboration on projects and events, as well as involvement in the self-administration of the programme, the professorship, and the university
- Duties as defined under § 52 of the Baden-Württemberg State Higher Education Act
Requirements:
- University degree (MA) in Art History, Art and Image History, or Art Studies
- Recognisable academic profile with a self-chosen focus, ideally addressing the history of art in its medial and global interconnections (the position is assigned to a professorship with a focus on Image Science)
- A dissertation project (which may also be pursued at another university), accompanied by a brief project description
- Prior teaching experience and preliminary academic work
- Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary, team-based, and project-oriented work
- Very good written and spoken English; additional languages are an advantage
