About the role
Equinox Gallery seeks an organised, personable, and highly motivated Gallery Associate to support its exhibitions, communications, sales, and daily operations.
Reporting to the Gallery Director and working closely with a five-person team, the Gallery Associate will coordinate artwork installations and logistics, maintain the gallery’s website, support sales activity, and manage communications.
Founded in Vancouver in 1972, Equinox Gallery works with contemporary artists, artists’ estates, and the secondary market, supporting the research, presentation, and placement of significant Canadian artworks.
Responsibilities
The Gallery Associate will:
- Coordinate the installation and deinstallation of artworks
- Manage shipping, transportation, deliveries, and related logistics
- Liaise with clients, collectors, artists, museums, curators, installers, and service providers
- Prepare email campaigns, exhibition announcements, invitations, and other communications
- Maintain the gallery website, including exhibition, artist, and artwork information
- Prepare client materials, artwork details, price information, invoices, and sales documentation
- Support client follow-up and maintain accurate contact records
- Welcome clients and visitors to the gallery
- Obtain quotations from shippers, installers, and other external providers
- Support daily gallery and office operations
- Maintain organised physical and digital records
- Contribute to special projects and other gallery activities
Candidate profile
Applicants should have:
- Experience installing, receiving, and handling artworks
- Experience coordinating shipping, delivery, or exhibition logistics
- At least two years of relevant experience in a commercial gallery, museum, arts organisation, or related professional environment
- Knowledge of contemporary and historical Canadian art
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and client-facing skills
- Exceptional administrative and organisational abilities
- The ability to manage competing priorities, maintain accuracy, and meet deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and macOS
- Sound judgement, discretion, initiative, and the ability to work independently
- A collaborative, adaptable, and solution-oriented approach
- A valid British Columbia driver’s licence
Post-secondary education in Art History, Visual Arts, Arts Administration, Museum Studies, or a related field is an advantage.
Experience supporting sales, preparing client materials, managing artwork inventories, bookkeeping, or financial administration is also desirable.
Schedule
This is an in-person position with regular hours from Tuesday to Saturday, 10am–5pm. Some evening work will be required for exhibition openings, artist talks, special events, and other gallery activities.
