mumok – Museum moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien is seeking a Head of Art Education to lead its education, interpretation and outreach department.

Responsibilities

The Head of Art Education will:

• Assume overall responsibility for the Art Education department;
• Lead, support and develop the departmental team;
• Manage financial, organisational and staffing resources;
• Develop the strategic direction of mumok’s education, interpretation and outreach programmes;
• Plan and coordinate educational and public-engagement activities;
• Initiate and deliver research and funding projects;
• Develop future-facing approaches to museum education and interpretation;
• Establish and improve research infrastructure;
• Develop processes for governance, data management and knowledge management;
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders;
• Identify, develop and oversee research projects;
• Contribute to publications and deliver lectures and guided tours;
• Participate in public discussions concerning art and cultural policy; and
• Represent the department through committees, conferences and public programmes.

Requirements

Applicants should have:

• Several years of leadership experience within an exhibition-producing organisation;
• Strong leadership abilities and interpersonal skills;
• Professional proficiency in German;
• Confident written and spoken English;
• The ability to develop and manage strategic education, engagement and outreach programmes;
• Experience working with internal and external stakeholders; and
• An interest in contributing to public conversations about art, museums and cultural policy.

A university degree and additional training in Art History are preferred. Expertise in modern and contemporary art would also be advantageous.
