Public Programme Producer at de Appel

Organisation: de Appel
Location: Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Salary: In line with the 2026 Guideline for Visual Arts Institutions; amount not specified
Contract: One year, with the possibility of extension
Hours: 24 hours per week, including evenings and weekends during programmes
Start date: To be agreed
Application deadline: 29 October 2026

de Appel is seeking a Public Programme Producer to deliver its public programme and organisation-wide activities. Reporting to the directors and working closely with the Head of Production and curators, the postholder will coordinate events, participants and production logistics, while managing technical staff, freelancers and interns.

Founded in 1975 as an alternative space for performance and video art, de Appel continues to host artistic and curatorial experimentation through exhibitions, live activations, its Curatorial Programme, Embedded Art projects and an active archive.

Responsibilities

The producer will oversee public events, organise group visits to de Appel and its archive, and occasionally produce educational activities. They will communicate with artists and participants, prepare and monitor budgets, develop production schedules, and arrange travel and accommodation.

Other duties include maintaining the programme calendar, archiving documentation and recordings, managing storage space and maintaining relationships with the building’s tenants.

The role also involves coordinating gallery hosts: scheduling shifts, monitoring overtime, recruiting and briefing new team members, and keeping guidance up to date.

Candidate profile

Applicants should have demonstrated experience producing events or exhibitions and an interest in contemporary art and culture. Fluency in Dutch and English is required.

de Appel seeks someone proactive, technically confident and comfortable managing several tasks under pressure while working collaboratively. The position includes attendance at programmes during evenings and weekends.

Training and courses are offered. Interviews are planned for November.
