Louisville Visual Art is the catalyst for visual arts education and participation in Louisville, fulfilling its mission in three ways: art education for children and adults, community outreach with “hands-on” visual art experiences for underserved populations, artist advocacy and support services to help the profession thrive, including exhibitions showcasing emerging and established local and regional artists. Its signature program is Children’s Fine Art Classes (CFAC), founded in 1925 to provide gifted visual art students the opportunity to attend a curriculum, studio based fine arts program. LVA benefits more than 900 artists, reaches over 2,000 youth and collaborates with over 75 organizations annually. LVA has an operating budget of $650,000 and a restricted endowment of $600,000. LVA is governed by a 23-member volunteer Board of directors and employs 5 full-time staff members, 3 part-time staff, and 46 part-time teachers and other contractors. The
Board and Staff just completed a year-long strategic planning process and is relocating to its new headquarters in a recently purchased historic building in Louisville’s Portland neighborhood; preparations for a planned renovation and capital campaign await LVA’s new leader.
