The National Portrait Gallery houses a unique collection of all forms of portraiture of the people who have made or who are currently contributing to British history and culture. With more than 2 million visitors each year, the Gallery is one of the country’s most important and popular galleries.
Learning is central to the work of the National Portrait Gallery. The Learning department is responsible for working with new and existing audiences to increase opportunities for learning and participation with the Gallery’s collection.
The Learning Department in the National Portrait Gallery is looking to recruit a Learning Manager, Art, to manage and develop the Gallery’s Schools programmes for Secondary Art students and teachers. The post-holder will ensure the effective delivery of booked programmes and upcoming projects by working with key Learning team and Gallery staff, Learning Freelancers who deliver the programmes and guest artists and practitioners. The role includes the efficient handling of administration including budgets and programme evaluation.
The successful applicant will demonstrate their ability to bring energy, expertise and fresh ideas to support and develop an established learning programme. They will have demonstrable experience of managing and delivering Secondary Art programmes, preferably in a cultural institution, up-to date-knowledge of current curriculum and Government agendas, and high-level communication, organisational and staff management skills.
