Assistant Curator
Assistant Curator
Location: Albert Dock, Liverpool
This is an opportunity to develop your career with a world-class centre of excellence and bring art to a wider audience.
The aim of Tate is to increase public awareness, understanding and enjoyment of British art from the 16th century to the present day, and of international modern and contemporary art.
Tate Liverpool is one of the largest galleries of modern and contemporary art outside of London, showing the Tate Collection in new and innovative ways. Our Exhibitions and Displays department is responsible for curating and delivering exhibitions, collection displays and projects, working closely with our Learning team and in partnership with artists to find fresh ways of connecting with our audience.
As an Assistant Curator, you’ll help organise and co-ordinate major exhibitions and gallery displays, communicating across teams both internally and across sites to ensure projects are delivered within budget and to the highest standards. Your role will encompass everything from carrying out research, negotiating loans and preparing budget estimates to communicating with tour venues, producing gallery information and delivering lectures and VIP tours. You will also get to contribute your own ideas for new exhibitions and displays.
Your degree in a relevant subject, preferably art history or a related field, will be supported by a sound knowledge of twentieth century and contemporary art. You will need paid or voluntary experience of working in a museum or gallery (including organising exhibitions), a high level of IT literacy and excellent communication, teamwork, planning and prioritisation skills. An imaginative, proactive approach and the ability to make good decisions under pressure will also be essential.
