Reporting to the Curator, Modern & Contemporary Art, the Assistant Curator, Modern Art is responsible for building, presenting and documenting the permanent modern collection and in the creation and execution of permanent collection exhibitions. The Assistant Curator coordinates, organizes, and monitors the development and installation of hosted exhibitions. They will assist in the identification and research of significant tendencies, issues and opportunities in the field of modern art and foster public understanding of art as a vital social and cultural force. They will also contribute to the achievement of the AGO’s strategic goals as a leading presenter of modern art.
- Comprehensive knowledge of art history with expertise in Modern Art 1860-1960.
- MA in art history with emphasis in Modern art.
- Minimum of five years’ experience working in a Curatorial department.
- Demonstrated writing and research skills and the ability to publish scholarly material on their area of expertise.
- Demonstrated experience in speaking and writing about art to specialized audiences and more broadly based audiences.
- Knowledge of the installation process for works of art.
