The organization seeks a visionary to provide leadership and creative direction for the visual arts at Hi-ARTS. The Curator of Visual Arts will articulate, execute and implement a concise vision that builds on the current work and historical trajectory of Hi-ARTS while expanding hip-hop and urban aesthetics. The curator must be able to think creatively around what forms the next iterations of urban art and hip-hop look will take. In doing so, the Curator of Visual Arts works in consultation with the Executive Director and Curator of Performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Shape, articulate and implement the organization’s aesthetic and creative vision in regard to the visual arts
Curate and install exhibitions
Develop humanities programs in diverse spaces
Represent the organization’s artistic vision through speaking opportunities, public private and select fundraising functions
Facilitate collaborative relationships with community members and organizations, cultural institutions, universities and museums
Work closely with Executive Director around marketing efforts
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
BA, MA or MFA in a related field
Deep knowledge and experience working in the field and aesthetic of urban arts, hip-hop and contemporary art
Ability to think in a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative way
Clear understanding and grasp of past, current and emerging trends in visual arts
Engaged work around social justice, equity and access to the arts
Excellent interpersonal skills; writing, presentation and public speaking skills
Ability to creatively and strategically manage time in a fast paced environment
Track record of raising funds at the local, state and federal level
Ability to think and frame work in an entrepreneurial context
