Director of Curatorial Research
Position Overview:
The Curatorial Practice Research Director’s primary functions are the researching and programming of events for the Department, developing partnerships with cultural institutions, researching and working on grants from foundations for the department, and identifying significant art world figures to invite to the Department as speakers, partners or faculty.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Researches and develops with Chair curatorial issues for all public programming, including panels, talks, conferences, and other Department activities for students and the public.
- Identifies and works with local, national, and international institutional partners to collaborate on programming in all of the above areas.
- Researches and executes grant writing for department research-based projects.
- Assists Chair in the development and execution of fundraising for the Department.
- Perform other administrative duties as assigned by Chair.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in curating or Ph.D. in art history preferred or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years as an active curator with a portfolio of public exhibitions in museums, alternative spaces or commercial galleries preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of the international art world, a visible profile in it, and a network of international curatorial connections.
- Ability to work independently and detail oriented.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
- Diplomacy and professionalism when working with individuals via e-mail, phone, and in person.
- Strong organizational skills, time management and solution-oriented skills.
